truth

This is exactly what I mean to say every day

More Ian

Everytime I scope this uber talented guy out for updates, he blows my mind. Still residing in the smalls of Bristol, Ian Francis is as busy as ever. Whether it be an hour or ten, Ian has brigadingly emersed himself in his super-trendy mixed media form of painting. You'll see remarkable palettes and colour fornications rainbowing from each stroke like never before. It's so sexy it's ridiculous. From paint to pencil, this technique is modern, emotional, raw and contrived. And purely non-computer generated which is quite refreshing considering the ease attached Creative Suites and add ons these days. I think you'll find more and more artists experimenting with this form in future.
Francis graduated from the University if West England after completing his degree in Illustration and saw his first solo exhibition in the US in 2007.
He paints every day. He loves everyday.

Venetian Opera

Recently I have sat down for a painstaking 20 hours, designing and illustrating a new set of dingbats for your Font Books. Here's a few I've almost finished. I've called them Venetian Opera. The sketches will be rendered soon when I'm not so busy.

Buzzin' Fly

After twenty years on major labels selling over nine million records with partner Tracey Thorn in Everything But The Girl, and in part inspired by the dance scene that so influenced the band's surge in popularity in the mid-nineties (Missing, Walking Wounded), Ben Watt has moved back towards his early roots in the independent sector in recent years with a new and fascinating globe- spanning lateral career as DJ-producer, remixer and promoter. It began with his five year spell as co-founder of the seminal underground club night and compilation series Lazy Dog (1998-2003) and the latest chapter has been the success of his independent label, Buzzin' Fly launched in April 2003. The first ever track released by the label was Ben's own song 'Lone Cat (holding on) which has since sold over 12,000 copies and is still one of my favourite house tracks. Buzzin' Fly now strong and still going well into 2009, has amalgamated some of the deepest of house artists and continues to power on. When I was in London over christmas I went to see Ben at The End Club (just before it closed, phew) where he peckishly held residency with the Buzzin' Fly saturdays, and let me tell you. It was simply the best house music I have ever heard, some of the rawest tunes and the boggle eyed music lovers filled the entire club with soul and an outstanding love for music vibe.

The label has also some interesting design work for new releases, parties and promotional material. The typeface is now a distinguished font of which they own and this style carries on with every piece of material they produce.

the glaciers

The first time she peered over her shoulder, her neck swanned with the wind and she begun to pulse her colour into the open, yet keeping it particularly close. Snug. Colour was going everywhere. It was heating up. It wasn't like a green or a red, but more like the misty revelation of an angel. Glowing. With edges blurring and then blending. And continuing. The next time she swayed her face towards her shoulder, her world had changed in a pocket of time, which would only last an eternity. Or so she thought. And everybody joined her. And what of the time? What is time? How long is it? Could we be losing track of it? Will we get it back? Did it even go anywhere to begin with? As she fossicked through the library for answers she saw the pages of discovery descending a translucent staircase, and then fading. Echoing in little pictures. Cascading angles. Like little harmless vibrations. The walls beamed all the colours of the rainbow in perfect order. Blending and getting closer to the sun. Innocently. Quietly. Softly.

It was then that she found herself manipulating the process to sink further into the feathers of the dream. The dream she'd never had before. Until the dream was over.
